Where We Started: The Legacy Desktop Application
For years, Tag Point (Kumarappa Groups) relied on a legacy, standalone Windows desktop application installed on a single HP laptop/desktop in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu. Built on classic Windows Forms (VB style), the application handled core purchase orders, order entry, job cards, finished goods (FG) entry, delivery challans, and basic billing.
Why Modernization Was Critical
- Single-Point-of-Failure: Operations depended entirely on a single physical machine. If the PC crashed or suffered disk corruption, company operations were paralyzed.
- Zero Multi-User Collaboration: Multiple department staff could not work concurrently. Purchase, billing, and job cards had to queue sequentially for computer access.
- No Remote Access: Management could not review sales, pending orders, or cash inflows while offsite or on mobile devices.
- Free-Text Data Entry Errors: Unvalidated desktop grids led to spelling inconsistencies in material types, customer names, and UOM standards.
